47 Primary School Graduates in Karangasem Do Not Continue to Junior High School

A total of 47 children who completed primary school in Karangasem this year are not continuing to junior high school. The dozens of children are not pursuing further education for a variety of reasons. Based on an investigation by the Karangasem Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora), the children are not continuing their education due to financial reasons, a desire to work, following their parents, having no one to take them to school, or simply no longer wanting to attend school. “The most common reason we found is that the students themselves no longer want to go to school,” said the Head of the Karangasem Disdikpora, I Gusti Bagus Budiadnyana, on Wednesday (15/7/2026). The 47 primary school graduates who are not continuing to junior high school are spread across seven sub-districts: Rendang with 8 children, Abang 10, Bebandem 5, Kubu 6, Karangasem 10, and Sidemen 5. Only primary school graduates in Sidemen Sub-district all continued to junior high school. “Initially, there were more recorded in the system. However, after tracing, it turned out that some of them continued to Sekolah Rakyat, Widyalaya, or schools outside the regency,” said Budiadnyana. The Karangasem Disdikpora, together with related agencies, will attempt to visit these students in the near future to conduct a more intensive approach with both the children and their parents. “If the issue is that no one can take them to school, we will find a solution, or if there is no money, we will find a solution. However, usually, the most difficult cases are when the students themselves no longer want to attend school,” said Budiadnyana. “We actually want all students to be able to continue their education, but if after our maximum efforts they still do not want to go to school, then it is certain they will be entered into the data as school dropouts,” added Budiadnyana. Budiadnyana revealed that the dozens of primary school graduates were identified as not continuing to junior high school through the online registration system. According to him, this is an advantage of the online system because it is immediately detected. As a result, the Karangasem Disdikpora can immediately know the number of children continuing their education or not. Through this system, Budiadnyana explained, the government requires schools to register all their graduated students for the next level of education. After that, students must re-register at their intended school. If they do not re-register, the system automatically states that the child has withdrawn or is not continuing their education. Based on system data, a total of 7,021 children graduated from primary school this year, and 47 of them are not continuing to junior high school. The children who have continued their education are currently undergoing the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) at their respective schools.
