47 kg of drug confiscated

JAMBI, Jambi: Police have seized 47 kilograms of marijuana being smuggled from Medan to Jakarta and arrested four alleged drug dealers.

Jambi police chief Col. Soeyono told Antara yesterday the drug was confiscated from people on three Jakarta-bound buses along the trans-Sumatra highway on Oct. 23.

He said police in the area have often foiled attempts to smuggle drugs into Java before. "Jambi is apparently a transit point for drug dealers," he said.

Northern Sumatra, especially Aceh, is well-known as a major marijuana producer. (pan)
