47,250 Tonnes of Indonesian Urea Arrive in Australia
The arrival of the Motor Vessel (MV) Medi at the Port of Brisbane, Queensland, on Monday (22/6/2026) local time marked the delivery of 47,250 tonnes of urea from Indonesia. This shipment represents the implementation of an Indonesia-Australia export cooperation scheme under a Government-to-Government (G-to-G) framework aimed at strengthening food security in the Indo-Pacific region.
Indonesian Ambassador to Australia and Vanuatu, Siswo Pramono, stated that the successful delivery is a significant step in reinforcing Indonesia’s contribution to regional food security. Amidst geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East affecting global fertiliser supply chains, Indonesia has demonstrated its strategic position as a reliable regional supplier.
“This cooperation symbolises the strong food security partnership between Indonesia and Australia. When global supply chains face challenges, Indonesia, with its large urea production capacity, can help meet Australia’s needs, which reach 3.7 million tonnes per year,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
Rahmad Pribadi, President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, said the successful shipment reflects the company’s ongoing positive performance in enhancing the competitiveness of the national fertiliser industry. He noted that Indonesia’s ability to maintain production and supply continuity amidst global dynamics has strengthened its position as a strategic partner for countries seeking stable and trusted sources.
“Today, Indonesia has shown that we are a reliable supplier that can be a source of fertiliser supply for partner countries. We come when they need us and we provide certainty when the world is full of uncertainty,” Rahmad said.
As a fertiliser producer with a total capacity of 14.8 million tonnes per year, Pupuk Indonesia is capable of meeting domestic needs while supporting regional market demand. In 2026, the company’s urea production is targeted to reach 7.8 million tonnes, while domestic demand is estimated at around 6.3 million tonnes, providing ample room for exports without disrupting supply to Indonesian farmers.
