46 Accident-Prone Locations Identified on Central Java-Yogyakarta Homecoming Routes
The Head of Road Preservation at the Central Java-Yogyakarta National Road Authority, Fajar Triawan, announced that 46 accident and congestion-prone locations have been identified on national highways in Central Java and Yogyakarta. Additionally, 23 disaster-risk zones exist in Central Java, comprising 14 flood-prone areas and 9 landslide-prone areas.
“These include 14 flood-prone locations and 9 landslide-prone locations,” he stated during a visit to the Klonengan Integrated Post in Margasari, Tegal Regency, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Nevertheless, Triawan assured that the Central Java to Yogyakarta route corridor is 94.20 per cent ready for holiday travellers. The total road length in this region spans 1,888.69 kilometres, comprising 296 road sections.
In Central Java, national roads totalling 1,581.45 kilometres are confirmed to be 93.47 per cent ready for holiday traffic. In Yogyakarta, roads spanning 307.24 kilometres are reported to be 97.96 per cent ready for travel.
Several accident-prone locations are scattered across routes from Brebes to Semarang along the northern coastal corridor. Traffic congestion is anticipated along the southern route from Brebes towards Tegal Regency or around the Klonengan Flyover.
To address driver fatigue during the holiday period, the Ministry of Public Works has established several emergency posts. “We have also established 18 posts distributed across all national road sections, each led by a respective Road Section Commitment Officer,” Triawan explained.
Triawan noted that construction work scheduled for 2026-2027 will be temporarily halted ten days before Lebaran. However, routine road maintenance work, such as pothole repairs, will continue as normal.
