459,570 Vehicles Crowd Cikampek Toll Road, 30 Per Cent Discount Comes Tomorrow
JAKARTA — The massive Eid exodus for 2026 has begun early. As of Saturday (14 March 2026), data shows that 459,570 vehicles have left the Jakarta-Bogor-Tangerine region during the ten to eight days before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri.
This figure reflects a 4.8 per cent increase compared to normal traffic, signalling that the public is heeding government appeals to leave for their hometowns earlier than usual.
However, the real challenge is just beginning. Jasa Marga Chief Executive Rivan A. Purwantono is now preparing to activate toll tariff discount as a tool to manage traveller behaviour.
This policy covers nine strategic toll routes across the Trans-Java, Trans-Sumatra networks and the Bandung–Cisumdawu corridor.
Rivan explained that this aggressive step is part of the company’s contribution to distributing traffic flow more evenly so it does not concentrate at critical points in time.
“Starting early tomorrow, Jasa Marga will implement a 30 per cent toll tariff discount. This programme aims to help distribute traffic flow more evenly. This discount applies to road users undertaking continuous journeys with electronic toll cards,” Rivan said in a statement on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Cumulative data from four major toll gates shows that the eastbound direction remains the main focal point of movement.
A total of 201,457 vehicles (43.8 per cent) are heading towards Trans-Java and Bandung. The sharpest surge is seen at the Cikampek North Gate, which recorded a volume increase of 24.2 per cent above normal traffic.
Meanwhile, the westbound direction towards Merak recorded 158,053 vehicles, up 6 per cent. Interestingly, traffic heading south towards the Puncak area actually decreased by 5.9 per cent below normal.
The effectiveness of this 30 per cent discount will be tested on critical routes such as Jakarta–Cikampek, the MBZ Elevated Toll Road, Palimanan–Kanci, and Batang–Semarang. In Sumatra, the discount also applies to the Belmera section and Medan–Kualanamu–Tebing Tinggi.
However, the success of this traffic management scheme depends not only on toll discounts. Traveller discipline in managing rest periods at rest areas and ensuring electronic toll card funds are available remain critical factors for smooth passage through major toll gates.
