Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed a report detailing 457 fire incidents in Jakarta during the period from July to August 2026.

“Based on reports from the Regional Disaster Management Agency, there were 457 fire incidents in Jakarta from July to August, with approximately 240 of these occurring in August alone,” Pramono stated at the National Monument Square, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/9).

Pramono reported that the highest number of fire incidents occurred in West Jakarta and East Jakarta.

“First, regarding the 457 fires, the highest number was in West Jakarta, followed by East Jakarta. These two areas have the highest potential for such incidents, specifically the Tambora district in the West and Cakung in the East,” he noted.

He stated that fires are generally caused by electrical short circuits.

“The most dominant suspected cause is electrical short circuits. Second are waste burning, and there are also several instances caused by negligence, such as improper disposal of cigarette butts, and so on,” he explained.

Furthermore, Pramono noted that the potential for fire is increasing due to the prolonged dry season in Jakarta.

“The dry season, with increasingly hot and dry weather conditions, increases the risk of fire, especially in densely populated residential areas,” said Pramono.

As an anticipatory measure against fires, Pramono has instructed every neighbourhood unit (RW) to provide portable fire extinguishers (APAR).

“Regarding portable fire extinguishers, I am requesting every RW to possess them. Since this programme is already underway, I am confident that every RW now has them,” he added.
