450,000 Barrels of Crude Oil from Algeria Arrive in Cilacap

The vessel Gamkonora, carrying 450,000 barrels of crude oil from the Menzel Lejmat (MLN) Block 405a field in Algeria, docked in Cilacap, Central Java, on 24 June 2026. The President Director of PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), Syamsu Yudha, stated that the tanker travelled for 41 days from Port Arzew, Algeria, having departed on 14 May 2026.

“This shipment strengthens Pertamina’s position as a competitive, world-class oil and gas company, while fulfilling the mandate to support national energy security through excellent and sustainable operations,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 26 June 2026.

The Block 405a oil and gas working area in Algeria is operated by Pertamina Internasional EP as part of a 25-year production sharing contract extension with the Algerian national oil company, Sonatrach.

Syamsu noted that this is the second shipment this year, following the first delivery of 1 million barrels that arrived in late January. Following this second shipment, PIEP plans a third delivery to depart in August and return to Indonesia in September 2026.

PIEP Relations Manager, Dhaneswari Retnowardhani, explained that the arrival of the crude oil brought by the Gamkonora ensures that oil and gas production from overseas assets can provide direct benefits to Indonesia. Management is committed to continuously supporting stable and secure national energy security through strong operational planning and synergy.

“In line with this, PIEP is optimising the economic value of global production by leveraging international market opportunities and managing a value-added portfolio,” added Dhaneswari.
