450,000 Barrels of Crude Oil from Algeria Arrive in Cilacap
The Gamkonora tanker, carrying 450,000 barrels of crude oil from the Menzel Lejmat (MLN) Block 405a in Algeria, docked in Cilacap, Central Java, on 24 June 2026. President Director of PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), Syamsu Yudha, stated that the tanker departed from Port Arzew, Algeria, on 14 May 2026, undertaking a 41-day voyage. “This delivery strengthens Pertamina’s position as a competitive, world-class oil and gas company, while fulfilling its mandate to support national energy security through excellent and sustainable operations,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 26 June 2026. The Block 405a oil and gas working area in Algeria is operated by Pertamina Internasional EP under a 25-year extension of a production sharing contract with Algeria’s national oil and gas company, Sonatrach. Syamsu noted that this is the second delivery this year, following the arrival of 1 million barrels in late January. After this second shipment, PIEP plans a third delivery departing in August and returning to Indonesia in September 2026. PIEP Manager Relations Dhaneswari Retnowardhani explained that the arrival of crude oil aboard the Gamkonora ensures that production from overseas assets can directly benefit Indonesia. Management is committed to consistently supporting stable and secure national energy resilience through robust planning and operational synergy. “In line with this, PIEP optimises the economic value of global production by leveraging international market opportunities and value-added portfolio management,” Dhaneswari said.
