Semarang (ANTARA) - A total of 45 Mechanical Engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) have been sent to Malaysia to participate in joint research regarding green technology.

The Vice Dean for Business, Research, and Cooperation of the Unnes Faculty of Engineering, Rusiyanto, expressed his appreciation and hopes for the students participating in the programme during a briefing in Semarang on Tuesday.

During the research period, the students will collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Pahng Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). The research focuses on future technologies, specifically renewable energy and natural fibre composites.

Following this collaborative research, students are expected to gain international research experience that supports the development of sustainable technological innovation. These technologies are intended to be developed to support sustainable development in Indonesia.

“We hope that these 45 Mechanical Engineering students will not only absorb the latest green knowledge and technology at UMPSA but are also able to produce innovative and reputable joint research outputs,” he said.

Furthermore, the programme is expected to strengthen the students’ capacity on an international level. While at UMPSA Malaysia, students will gain direct access to modern laboratory facilities and collaborate with local researchers.

Additionally, they will be involved in case studies regarding the use of natural fibres as environmentally friendly composite materials and the development of renewable energy.

The activity also serves to strengthen international networks and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The joint research supports several SDGs, including SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing access to international-standard engineering education and global research experience, and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through research in the field of renewable energy.

Moreover, it supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the development of eco-friendly materials based on natural fibres as alternatives to synthetic materials that are difficult to decompose.

Through this joint research programme, the Unnes Faculty of Engineering remains committed to producing graduates who possess a global outlook, are adaptive to technological developments at both national and international levels, and are ready to contribute to the development of green industries.

He expressed hope that this international research experience would further strengthen student competence while expanding academic collaborations that support sustainable development.
