45 police officers demoted in Jambi
JAMBI: Jambi Police demoted a total of 45 police personnel who
were found guilty of violating the law and of committing immoral
wrongdoings.
"The demotion was conducted to repair the police's tarnished
image in the province and to uphold the police's code of ethics.
And it will serve as a good lesson for other police personnel,"
Brig. Gen. Toto Soewali, chief of the provincial police force,
said here on Thursday.
Toto declined to identify the 45 police personnel or detail
violations they had committed.
"Besides the demotion, those who are found guilty of violating
the law will be taken before a tribunal," he said.
He also said the provost unit in the provincial police would
be asked to be more proactive in taking action against police
personnel violating civilian and military laws, regardless of
their rank.
"Police personnel must be able to perform well and be good
examples to civilian people. It's impossible for police to uphold
and enforce the law if they do not comply with the law in their
daily life," he said. --Antara
