45 of 60 Tourism Villages in West Lombok No Longer Developing

As many as 45 of the 60 tourism villages in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), are no longer classified as developing. All of these villages had been designated as tourism villages since 2022.

Secretary of the West Lombok Tourism, Creative Economy, Youth and Sports Office (Disparekrafpora) Muhammad Iwan said that currently only 15 tourism villages remain active and fall into the developing category.

According to Iwan, the developing status of a tourism village is assessed based on a number of aspects. These include the tourism management institution, the existence of tour packages, promotion, and the economic impact felt by the community.

“It is said to be developing because the institution is still active, the tour packages are still running, the amenities are adequate, promotion on social media is also active, and the economic impact of their activities is already being felt,” said Iwan on Monday (24/8/2026).

Iwan said the other 45 tourism villages have not yet met these indicators. One of the main problems is the limited human resources (HR) as well as the absence of a strong tourism concept or distinctive character in each village.

“They are tourism villages but the resources are no longer there. I think the regeneration needs to be improved,” he said.

According to Iwan, the West Lombok Disparekrafpora continues to encourage the 45 villages to become active again. One of the ways is through training to improve the capacity of the human resources managing the tourism villages.

“We always encourage them to be more active through training and to cooperate with the private sector,” he said.

On the other hand, Iwan revealed that no tourism village in West Lombok won an award at the 2026 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI). In previous years, tourism villages from West Lombok had participated in the event.

“For ADWI, we have not received any yet,” he said.

As an alternative, the West Lombok Disparekrafpora has proposed six active tourism villages to participate in the 2026 Wonderful Indonesia Award (WIA) organised by the Ministry of Tourism.

The six villages are Sedau Village, South Lembar Village, South Kuripan Village, Lebah Sempage Village, Sesaot Village, and Senggigi Village.

“These are now in the curation process,” he concluded.
