Tangerang Selatan, CNN Indonesia – Police have recorded at least 43 pothole points on the main route connecting Ciputat to Jakarta. The road damage has triggered five traffic accidents in the past week.

East Ciputat Police Chief Kompol Bambang Askar Sodiq said the damage points are spread from Jalan Dewi Sartika to Jalan Ir Haji Juanda.

“Based on mapping results, there are a total of 43 pothole points,” Bambang said when contacted on Saturday (14/2).

The most recent incident occurred on the Ciputat flyover on Thursday (5/2). A motorcyclist fell after hitting a pothole on the road surface. A similar incident was also reported on Monday (2/2) and went viral on social media.

From the dozens of points identified, police pinpointed two locations considered most accident-prone, namely on top of the Ciputat flyover and the Cimanggis area.

“There are two very critical points that are accident-prone and threaten the safety of residents,” he said.

Bambang said that while no fatalities occurred, the five accidents caused by potholes resulted in riders sustaining injuries and vehicle damage.

“There have been five accidents caused by potholes. The two most recent ones were on the Ciputat flyover,” he said.

He said police have coordinated with relevant agencies to push for expedited road repairs. Motorists are urged to increase their vigilance when passing through the route, especially at night or during rain when potholes are difficult to see.
