A nine-year-old boy in Jasinga, Bogor Regency, West Java, has died after allegedly being attacked by a hunting dog. In response to the incident, dozens of hunters are being questioned by the police.

Jasinga Police Chief, AKP Agus Hidayat, stated that 43 hunters were detained for questioning. They were located not only at the scene of the incident but also at various points around the Kampung Tipar forest area. “They were found not just at the incident site, but also around the forest,” said Agus on Monday (8/6).

In addition to questioning the hunters, police have also seized several vehicles and dogs suspected to be linked to hunting activities on the day of the incident. During the operation, officers confiscated 24 four-wheeled vehicles, four motorcycles, and several hunting dogs.

According to the Police Chief, the hunters being questioned originate from various areas within West Bogor. Some were even found to have travelled from outside Java to participate in wild boar hunting activities in the area.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Agus confirmed that investigators have obtained significant clues pointing towards the identity of those potentially responsible for the victim’s death. “The investigation has narrowed down and there is a clear direction,” he asserted.

Police are also investigating the origin of the dogs used in the hunt. Based on preliminary examinations, the animals brought by the hunters were not specific hunting breeds. “They are ordinary dogs, village dogs. There are no specialised breeds being kept,” said Agus.

Witness statements from the scene are also a crucial part of the investigation. Police claim to have information regarding the characteristics of the dog suspected of attacking the victim. Currently, investigators are cross-referencing witness testimonies with the examinations of the hunters and the seized dogs. Agus expressed hope that the investigation will definitively reveal how the tragedy occurred and identify those held responsible.
