43,805 Indonesian Workers Laid Off, Highest in West Java

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) recorded that 43,805 workers were affected by layoffs (PHK) from January to July 2026. West Java was the province with the highest number of layoffs during that period.

Based on data from Satudata Kemnaker, the number of workers laid off in West Java reached 8,830 people. This figure accounted for approximately 20.16% of the national total of layoffs from January to July 2026.

“Workers laid off during this period, according to the province of domicile of the workers, were most numerous in West Java Province, namely around 20.16 percent of the total,” Kemnaker wrote, quoted from the Satudata Kemnaker website, Thursday (20/8/2026).

East Java was in second place with 4,781 workers laid off. Banten was in third place with 4,767 workers, followed by DKI Jakarta with 3,190 workers and Central Java with 3,074 workers.

• East Nusa Tenggara: 82 workers

Kemnaker explained that the data did not include workers who lost their jobs due to resignation, retirement, permanent total disability, or death.
