42,300 police deployed for MPR session
JAKARTA (JP): City Police are set to deploy 42,300 personnel to bring calm and peace in the capital during the General Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) next October, a senior police official said on Wednesday.
"Of 42,300 personnel to be deployed, City Police will send 15,000 officers, while 27,300 will come from the Indonesian Military (TNI)," deputy chief of City Police, Brig. Gen. Sutanto, told Antara.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with officials of the Jakarta office of the Indonesian Journalist Association (PWI), Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso, the city's leading government officials and editors of Jakarta-based mass media, Sutanto said the police would also deploy 11,800 members of the People's Security (Kamra) to back up security officers.
