4,100 illiterate in S. Kalimantan

BANJARMASIN, S. Kalimantan: There are still 4,100 people in
five regencies here who are completely illiterate, an official
said yesterday.

The head of the local Ministry of Education office, Aspul
Fansuri, told Antara that his agency would strive to cut the
number to zero next year.

Of the total number of illiterate people, 600 are from
Banjarmasin mayoralty, 500 from Tapin regency, 780 from Barito
Kuala regency, 780 from Kotabaru regency and 1,440 from Tanah
Laut regency. (aan)
