41,084 Foreign Tourists Use KAI During February 2026
Foreign tourists using PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI numbered 41,084 in February 2026. KAI’s Vice President for Corporate Communications, Anne Purba, said they dominated 10 departure stations on Java. ‘The dominance of Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Solo demonstrates the strong appeal of cities with distinctive cultural characters and landscapes,’ she said in a written statement on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
According to KAI data, foreign travellers most frequently boarded at Yogyakarta Station (6,652), Gambir (6,609), Bandung (4,033), Surabaya Gubeng (2,278). Then Pasarsenen (2,147), Semarang Tawang (1,584), Malang (1,179), Surabaya Pasar Turi (1,068), Probolinggo (907), and Solo Balapan (836).
Over the last two months, Anne said, foreign travellers who have used KAI services totalled 86,062. However, month-on-month, passenger numbers in February 2026 declined by 8.65 percent compared to January, which reached 44,978 travellers.
‘Going forward, the KAI Group will continue to strengthen service quality and intermodal integration so that travel experiences for tourists are more comfortable and well planned,’ said Anne.
Although there was a decline this month, KAI is optimistic there is an upward trend in foreign tourist numbers on an annual basis. This is evidenced by increases over the last three years: in 2023, 580,995; in 2024, 669,226; and in 2025, 694,123 travellers.
That growth is considered to reflect that rail travel is becoming a preferred option for foreign travellers who wish to enjoy Indonesian destinations more comfortably and with direct access to city centres. ‘Rail travel is designed to be part of a memorable travel experience,’ Anne said.
Foreign tourist travel will impact local economic growth, hotel activity, culinary, transportation, and micro, small and medium enterprises.
