4009 Commuters Transported Free of Charge by Police, Journey Escorted to Destination
The atmosphere at Polda Metro Jaya appeared different on Wednesday, 18 March 2026. Hundreds of suitcases and faces full of hope were visible as thousands of residents prepared to return to their hometowns through the precise free homecoming programme.
Kapolri General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo personally released the departure of 4,009 homecomers heading to Central Java and Yogyakarta.
Dozens of buses were prepared to transport the free homecoming participants. A total of 81 vehicles were dispatched simultaneously.
“For this departure, there are 81 buses and the number of passengers is 4,009 people carrying out the homecoming,” said Sigit.
Not only dispatched, the homecomers also received escorts during the journey. This was done to ensure the trip proceeded safely until arriving at their respective destinations.
The Kapolri also emphasised that safety factors are the top priority in this programme. All bus drivers have undergone thorough health examinations before driving.
From urine tests, alcohol tests, to checks related to drug use, all were conducted to avoid potential risks on the road.
In addition, services for the passengers were also attended to. Even the Health Minister directly reviewed the readiness of services in the free homecoming programme.
“Including providing services to passengers who will also carry out the free service earlier, the Minister of Health also directly witnessed it,” he said.
