400,000 Invalid Hajj Queue Entries, Potential Dormant Accounts of Rp10 Trillion

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government is currently validating the national hajj queue data, which now stands at around 5.7 million people. Preliminary findings indicate that approximately 400,000 prospective pilgrim records are suspected to be invalid.

Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said the number of suspected invalid records could be linked to initial hajj deposit funds still held in banks. Assuming an initial deposit of Rp25 million per person, the value of funds associated with the 400,000 invalid queue entries reaches around Rp10 trillion.

“We are reconciling seriously. If it is just 400,000, that means the dormant accounts of pilgrims amount to around Rp10 trillion,” Dahnil said during a meeting with Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (19/8/2028).

The government is currently matching the data with the Ministry of Home Affairs to verify the existence of prospective pilgrims recorded in the queue. This step is necessary because some of the data is suspected to come from prospective pilgrims who have died or whose whereabouts can no longer be identified.

Dahnil explained that there are various possible reasons why data falls into the invalid category. One of them is prospective pilgrims who have died, but their heirs have not applied for a portion replacement or withdrawal of the hajj deposit funds.

For information, the total hajj funds managed by the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) reached Rp181.73 trillion as of May 2026. This value continues to grow along with the increase in the hajj registration queue.

In the first five months of 2026 alone, 203,452 people registered for the hajj. This figure has reached 118.61% of the target set for the same period.
