40 Palestinian journalists held in Israeli prisons under 'harsh' conditions

A non-governmental organisation reported on Wednesday that 40 Palestinian journalists are currently being held in Israeli prisons under ‘harsh’ conditions. The Palestinian Prisoners Club said in a press statement that the number of journalists currently detained reached 40, following the arrest of journalist Mohammed Awad from Ramallah on the same day. The organisation noted that five of the detained journalists are women. Furthermore, more than 250 journalists have been arrested or detained by Israeli authorities since 7 October 2023, the organisation said. The figure includes journalists who are still detained as well as those who have been released. According to the statement, more than 260 journalists have been killed since 7 October 2023, including two who died in prison, while the fate of two other journalists remains unknown. There has been no comment from the Israeli side regarding the claims.
