40% of PLN's 2025-2034 Electricity Projects Now in Execution Phase

PT PLN (Persero) has announced that 40% of the electricity projects outlined in the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) have now entered the execution phase. The update was provided by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo during a hearing with the House of Representatives’ Commission XII in Jakarta.

According to PLN’s records, 1,646 projects from the RUPTL are currently in execution, a figure that surpasses the initial targets set for mid-2026. Of these, 143 projects have already reached the Commercial Operation Date (COD) stage, comprising 50 power generation projects with a total capacity of 4,541 MW, 35 transmission projects spanning 3,694 circuit kilometres, and 58 substation projects with a capacity of 3,800 MVA.

A further breakdown shows 420 projects are currently under construction, including 163 power plants, 82 transmission lines, and 175 substations. Meanwhile, 1,083 projects are in the procurement phase, consisting of 512 generation, 257 transmission, and 314 substation projects. The remaining 2,472 projects are still undergoing feasibility studies.

Darmawan noted that the realisation of new generation capacity has reached 5.2 GW, exceeding the mid-2026 target of 4.2 GW. Transmission infrastructure development has also surpassed expectations, with 4,138 circuit kilometres completed against a target of 4,000 circuit kilometres.

He emphasised that the company is accelerating development in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives to strengthen national energy self-sufficiency. Key projects being fast-tracked include the Bali Timur Solar Power Plant, the Ijen Geothermal Power Plant, and the Perangin Hydroelectric Power Plant. By 2034, the long-term plan targets a total generation capacity of 69.52 GW, supported by 47,759 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 107,950 MVA of substation capacity.

PLN is also undertaking retrofit programmes at several coal-fired power plants to enable them to utilise low-calorie coal, addressing the declining reserves of medium and high-calorie coal. The company highlighted that the development of 100 GW of solar power plants, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto, is a flagship programme aimed at achieving energy self-sufficiency and reducing the basic cost of electricity production.
