40 military officers get promotion

JAKARTA (JP): Forty high ranking military officers, including 18 from the Army, 10 from the Navy, eight from the Air Force and four from the National Police, were promoted here yesterday.

Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Slamet Supriadi said the newly promoted officers would soon occupy positions left vacant by their seniors who were entering retirement age.

Supriadi said the officers would become staffers at the Armed Forces education institutions.

In the Army, six officers were promoted to major generals. They were Mengko Abraham Johannes, Suparwantoro, Sutarto SK, R.A. Butar Butar, Abdul Gani, and Benny Mandalika.

Twelve Army colonels were made brigadier: Sumarno MS, Sri Hardjendro, Imam Maksudi, Edy Waluyo, Amir Sembiring, Noor Aman, Suyaka Suganda, Kiki Syahnakri, Djorali Purba, Sutrisno, Abisono, and Sudrajat.

From the Navy, nine were promoted commodore. They were Sjamsul Bahri, Soemindiharso, Basuki Utomo, Paham Maruli Tua Samosir, Syahril Yoga, Laode Dayan, Ida Bagus Gede W., Budiman Djoko Said, and Robert Mangindaan.

Navy Colonel Harry Triono was promoted brigadier general.

Eight officers of the Air Force were promoted commodore: Markamto, Suharjono, Muljono, Sumarso, E. Widjanarko, Rusbandi, Jeffrey Zainal, and Budhi Rahadi.

From the police force, Brig. Gen. Seh Tarigan was made major general. Three had their rank promoted to brigadier general: Guntur Sumastopo, Adang Daradjatun, and Muhammad Zein.

"They'll report their promotion to the Armed Forces Chief Gen. Feisal Tanjung Monday," Supriadi said. (imn/aan)
