40 High-Risk Inmates Transferred from Palembang Prison to Nusakambangan
JAKARTA — The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen Pas) transferred 40 inmates from Palembang Prison in South Sumatra to Nusakambangan Prison on Friday 22 May 2026.
As a result, a total of 88 inmates have already been transferred to Nusakambangan Prison in May 2026.
“We will continue this measure to achieve proper rehabilitation and security for inmates,” said Corrections Directorate General Mashudi in a written statement on Sunday 24 May 2026.
“For inmates classified as high-risk, Nusakambangan is the place we hope will transform their behaviour into compliant inmates who follow rehabilitation programmes properly,” he added.
He stated that the transfer forms part of a commitment to clean up prisons and detention centres of security disturbances, including combating drugs, mobile phones and other prohibited items.
“We remind all Corrections personnel not to take rules lightly. Whether inmates or officers, if proven involved in narcotics, mobile phones, scamming or other violations, there is no mercy — severe sanctions will be imposed,” he said.
The transfer process was carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.
“To date, a total of 2,648 high-risk category inmates have been transferred to Nusakambangan during the tenure of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto,” he stated.
