40 families to relocate

JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta mayoralty plans to relocate 40 families of tahu (soybean curd) and tempe (soybean cake) makers from the sites they occupy along the Ciliwung riverbank in the Kalianyar and Jembatan Besi districts, an official has said.

The families will be relocated in the Semanan district, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

The measure is part of the mayoralty's Prokasih project, which is part of a citywide program to clean up rivers in the greater Jakarta area.

The families, who are members of the Indonesian Soybean Curd and Soybean Cake Cooperative, will occupy about 800 houses being provided by the mayoralty, H. Karsidin, chief of the mayoralty's Security Affairs said as reported by Antara news agency yesterday.

Meanwhile, 24 carton traders and 300 advertising material vendors on Jl. Pangeran Jayakarta who were evicted from their sites along the Ciliwung bank, are reported to have received compensation from the mayoralty last week.

Among the 350 traders who were evicted, 205 received sums of between Rp 1 million to Rp 4 million, which came to a total of Rp 75 million. (01)
