40,000 People Travel by Train in West Sumatra During Eid al-Adha Long Holiday
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division II West Sumatra recorded high public enthusiasm for rail transport during the long holiday period encompassing Eid al-Adha 1447 H, Vesak Day, and Pancasila Day, spanning 27 May to 1 June 2026. During this six-day period, KAI Divre II West Sumatra successfully served 40,514 passengers across various train services in the West Sumatra region.
The Pariaman Ekspres service was the most popular, reaching 30,255 passengers, which represents 119 per cent of the 25,440 available seats. This high achievement reflects the intense mobility and passenger turnover on the Pariaman Ekspres service during the long holiday. Meanwhile, the Minangkabau Ekspres served 5,877 passengers, and the Lembah Anai service carried 4,382 passengers.
These figures demonstrate that trains are increasingly trusted by the public as a preferred mode of transport for tourism, visiting family, and meeting various travel needs during holidays. The Head of Public Relations for KAI Divre II West Sumatra, Reza Shahab, stated that this positive result is an indicator of growing public confidence in railway services that offer safe, comfortable, punctual, and congestion-free travel.
“We would like to thank all customers who chose the train as their mode of transport during the long holiday. The high number of passengers we served serves as motivation for KAI to continue improving service quality and ensuring every journey is safe, comfortable, and secure until the destination,” said Reza on Tuesday (2/6).
During the holiday period, Padang Station recorded the highest number of departures with 11,164 passengers, followed by Pariaman Station with 7,594, Naras Station with 3,243, Air Tawar Station with 2,893, and Lubuk Alung Station with 2,058.
In terms of arrivals, Padang Station was the most popular destination with 11,526 passengers, followed by Pariaman Station with 8,024, Air Tawar Station with 3,258, Naras Station with 2,365, and Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) Station with 2,108.
To support high mobility during the long holiday, KAI Divre II West Sumatra ensured all operational services ran optimally through the readiness of infrastructure, strengthened operational supervision, and enhanced passenger services both at stations and during journeys. As a result, all train journeys throughout the period were safe, smooth, and controlled.
In addition to focusing on service, KAI Divre II West Sumatra continues to prioritise safety in railway operations. Throughout the holiday period, officers routinely conducted inspections of facilities and infrastructure, monitored train movements, and conducted safety socialisations for the community living near the tracks.
KAI Divre II West Sumatra urged the public to remain disciplined and adhere to safety rules at level crossings by prioritising train movements, stopping briefly before crossing, and ensuring the way is clear from both directions. The public was also reminded not to walk, play, or engage in other activities on the tracks, as this endangers both personal safety and train operations.
“We invite the entire community to work together in building a culture of railway safety. The safety of train journeys is not only KAI’s responsibility but also requires the active care and participation of all parties,” concluded Reza.
