40,000 Farmers in West Java Protected by Accident, Health and Death Insurance
Approximately 40,000 farmers across 27 districts and cities in West Java are targeted to receive insurance protection with 100 per cent premium subsidies through the Micro Insurance for Accidents, Health and Death (ASMIK) programme. This scheme represents one of the largest provincial-level farmer social protection models with potential for national replication to strengthen food security foundations.
Wahyu Hidayah, Head of the Food Security and Agriculture Office of Kuningan District, emphasised that farmer protection is a strategic element in maintaining national food production stability. “Food security is not merely about increasing production, but ensuring that farmers as key actors have a safety net. If farmers are protected, then the sustainability of production and stability of food supply will be better maintained,” he stated on Friday (27 February 2026).
According to him, agricultural risks stem not only from climate change, flooding, drought and pest attacks, but also health and workplace accident risks. Without financial protection, a single disaster can have prolonged impacts on household economics and farm business continuity.
In Kuningan District, ASMIK implementation has shown an upward trend. In 2024, 941 participants were registered with 78 per cent having active policy numbers. In Fiscal Year 2025 this increased to 1,948 policies distributed across 32 subdistricts.
Regionally, the 2024 ASMIK realisation reached 34,209 policies against a target of 37,800 participants across 24 districts and cities, with total premiums of Rp 1.71 billion and 20 claims valued at Rp 74.1 million. This data demonstrates that the protection scheme is functioning and ready to deliver benefits when risks occur.
