4 TNI Members Involved in Acid Attack: From BAIS, Motive Still Unclear, Mastermind Sought
Jakarta - The TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) has designated four members of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) as suspects in the acid attack incident targeting human rights defender and Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.
“This morning, I received four individuals suspected of carrying out the assault on Mr Andrie Yunus,” stated TNI Puspom Chief Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
The suspects hail from the Navy and Air Force branches.
Yusri explained that two of the four suspected perpetrators served as the executors in the acid attack.
These two executors are the individuals whose faces were captured in CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, the roles of the other two suspects are still being probed by Puspom TNI.
“So, we are also still investigating the motive behind these four suspected perpetrators,” said Yusri.
Based on preliminary examinations, the suspects are charged under Article 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP).

“There are paragraphs 1 and 2, where the penalties are already stipulated, with some carrying 4 years and others 7 years,” revealed Yusri.
