Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) will return funds belonging to the congregation of the Catholic Parish of Aek Nabara in North Sumatra, which were embezzled by the former Head of Cash at BNI’s Aek Nabara Auxiliary Branch Office (KCP), Andi Hakim. The refund of the funds will take place this week.

The former Head of Cash at BNI KCP Aek Nabara, Andi Hakim Febriansyah, is known to have embezzled Rp 28 billion from the congregation of the Catholic Parish of Aek Nabara. Andi Hakim Febriansyah has been arrested and is being processed legally by the police.

BNI Will Return Congregation Funds of Rp 28 Billion

BNI has spoken out following the widely discussed case of embezzlement of Rp 28 billion from the congregation of the Catholic Parish of Aek Nabara by Andi Hakim Febriansyah. BNI has assured that it will return the customer’s funds in accordance with the progress of the investigation.

“We will carry out the resolution within this timeframe; we are in the process, and it is assured that from Monday to Friday this week during working hours, we will return it,” said BNI’s Director of Human Capital & Compliance, Munadi Herlambang, during a virtual press conference on Sunday (19/4).

Munadi stated that this case was uncovered in February 2026 as a result of internal supervision. Munadi mentioned that the total amount embezzled by Andi was Rp 28 billion based on the police investigation. Andi Hakim has now been designated as a suspect and is detained.

“Based on the progress of the police investigation that we received as of yesterday, Saturday, it has been concluded that the amount of funds embezzled is estimated at around Rp 28 billion. This case was first uncovered in February 2026 from the results of BNI’s internal supervision,” said Munadi.

BNI Calls It an Act by a Rogue Employee

Munadi explained that this embezzlement of church congregation funds is an act by an individual rogue employee outside of banking procedures. Munadi stated that the investment product offered to the church congregation, named ‘Deposito Investment’ by the suspect, is not an official BNI product.

“This incident is an act by an individual rogue employee who conducted transactions outside the system, outside authority, and official banking procedures, and the product used in this case is not an official BNI product and is not recorded in BNI’s operational system,” said Munadi.

Munadi said that the bank has carried out an initial refund of customer funds amounting to Rp 7 billion. Munadi stated that it will resolve the remaining refund this week.

BNI Feels Victimized by the Embezzlement Case

Munadi stated that BNI is also among those harmed in this case. BNI expressed particular sympathy to the customers of the Aek Nabara Parish.

“I also provide background that BNI in this matter is among those harmed by this incident, and certainly we are also concerned about this incident, especially for the customers of the Aek Nabara Parish, and we as a bank that has served the public since 1946 are committed to complying with existing regulations and taking responsibility for incidents like this,” he said.

The process of refunding the remaining funds will be formalised in a legal agreement agreed upon by both parties. “We have conducted initial verification and coordination with law enforcement authorities, and we have returned Rp 7 billion in the initial stage, and we will complete the remainder this week,” said Munadi.

BNI Urges Public to Be Wary of Embezzlement

BNI’s Director of Network & Retail Funding, Rian Eriana Kaslan, urged the public to avoid offers that do not align with general banking practices. Rian asked the public to be vigilant if there are offers promising unreasonably high interest rates or transactions outside official mechanisms.

“We urge the public to increase their vigilance, especially regarding investment offers that are not through official banking channels. Ensure that every product and transaction is conducted through official channels that can be verified,” said Rian.

Rian also reminded the public to always verify the authenticity of products and the offering parties before conducting transactions, and to prioritise caution in all financial activities.

“The public can check through BNI’s official website, the Wondr by BNI application, contact BNI Call services, or visit the nearest branch office to ensure the authenticity of products and services,” he added.
