4 Facts About the Rp2.05 Billion Land Cruiser in the Kuansing Regent Bribery Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is continuing its investigation into the alleged bribery case involving the sale and purchase of positions within the Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regency Government, Riau. One of the most striking pieces of evidence in this case is a luxury Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR-S valued at Rp2.05 billion.
The vehicle was allegedly provided by the Kuansing Regional Secretary, Zulkarnain (ZKN), to the Regent of Kuansing, Suhardiman Amby (SA). Here are the latest facts revealed by the KPK regarding the luxury vehicle:
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo revealed that the Toyota Landress 300 GR-S subject to the investigation was not purchased in new condition. “The vehicle is second-hand. Therefore, it is still registered under someone else’s name,” said Budi, as reported on Friday (3/7).
The KPK suspects that the multi-billion rupiah vehicle served as a bribery instrument from Zulkarnain to Suhardiman Amby. This gift was allegedly made so that Zulkarnain, who previously served as the Head of the Kuansing Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR) for the 2021-2025 period, could be selected and appointed to the position of Kuansing Regional Secretary.
In the procurement process, investigators found the involvement of another party with the initials ARD. The name ARD was allegedly used to apply for the leasing or financing process of the vehicle. This has become a focus for investigators to determine the extent of the ownership manipulation used to disguise the origin of the asset.
To strengthen the evidence, the KPK plans to summon representatives from the financing (leasing) company. Investigators require information regarding the purchase mechanism carried out by Zulkarnain and intend to delve into the detailed history of how the car was acquired.
To date, both Suhardiman Amby and Zulkarnain have undergone questioning at the KPK’s Red and White Building. The anti-corruption agency has affirmed that it will continue to trace the flow of funds and other assets related to the position-trading scandal in the region.
