4 Facts About the Discovery of 11 Babies in a Midwife's House in Sleman Leading to Criminal Investigation
Residents of Padukuhan Randu Wonokerso, Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, were shocked by the discovery of babies in a midwife’s house. The babies are said to be mostly the result of extramarital relationships.
As compiled by detikcom from detikJogja on Tuesday (12/6/2026), the Head of Criminal Investigation at Sleman Police Resort, AKP Mateus Wiwit Kustiyadi, explained that officers initially received suspicious information regarding the presence of more than a dozen babies in the house. The babies were being cared for by three people. Here are the facts:
- 11 Babies Evacuated
Police officers and relevant agencies evacuated 11 babies from the midwife’s house. According to the police, the midwife had been assisting with the births for the past five months.
“Of course, we found something suspicious about the presence of 11 babies in Hargobinangun at a house that was being looked after or cared for by three people,” Wiwit told reporters.
- 3 Babies in Poor Health
Wiwit explained that the 11 babies were evacuated on Friday afternoon (8/5) along with relevant agencies. Three babies were treated at the hospital, two were taken by their parents, while the other six were evacuated by the Sleman Social Services Office.
“Three babies are being treated at the RSUD, yesterday two babies were taken by those claiming to be their mothers. Then the other six babies are being cared for by social services for further handling,” he said.
Wiwit explained that the 11 babies were born in the Banyuraden, Gamping area with the assistance of a midwife with initials ORP. It started with one mother giving birth at the midwife’s and then entrusting the baby that was born.
- Babies Mostly from Extramarital Affairs
Based on police investigations, the babies are mostly the result of extramarital relationships.
“Yes, for these babies, mostly, to be honest, outside of marriage,” said Wiwit.
He explained that the police conducted an investigation after receiving information about 11 babies being cared for in a house. Preliminary findings revealed that the babies were born with the assistance of midwife ORP in the Banyuraden, Gamping area.
- Police Question Midwife and Parents
Sleman Police Resort is investigating this case. A total of 11 people have been questioned, including the midwife with initials ORP, who assisted in the birthing process.
In addition to the midwife, there is a woman with initials K and a man with initials S, who are the midwife’s parents. Examination results show that both helped care for the babies along with a helper.
“The witnesses we have clarified include one midwife, initials ORP. Regarding the caregiver, Mrs K. Assisted by her husband, Mr S, and one helper,” Wiwit told reporters.
Additionally, the police have taken statements from six mothers of the babies who entrusted their children to the midwife. Wiwit said it was the parents who initiated entrusting the children.
“The parents, due to busyness or possibly unmarried status, temporarily entrusted them. But they mostly cited busyness and said they would pick them up again,” he said.
Wiwit stated that officers are still delving deeper into this incident. Whether there are indications of neglect, child trafficking, or other criminal acts. Therefore, the police have not yet named any suspects in this incident.
“Still investigating everything. So still investigating, in the form of clarification to them and deepening with witnesses, both at the scene or those involved in caring or with the midwife as well,” he emphasised.
