The discovery of a newborn girl inside a black bag placed in a rubbish bin in Pasar Nalo, North Jakarta (Jakarta Utara), shocked residents. It was later confirmed that the baby had been abandoned by her mother. The incident occurred on Monday (2/3) at around 08:00 local time, at Pasar Nalo, RT 13 RW 12, Pademangan Barat Urban Village, Pademangan District, North Jakarta. The baby girl was first discovered by residents.

“A live newborn girl was found inside a black bag located in the rubbish bin in the Pasar Nalo area,” said the Head of Public Relations at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, on Tuesday (3/3/2026).

After receiving the report, police officers went to the scene. The crime scene was processed accordingly. “Officers from Pademangan Police Sector immediately attended the location to conduct checks and crime-scene processing, install police-line tape, question witnesses, collect evidence, and review CCTV footage,” he said.

Here are the following facts related to the infant abandoned in Pademangan, North Jakarta:

  1. The Perpetrator Arrested.

The perpetrator was captured on CCTV while disposing of the baby. In circulating CCTV footage, a man can be seen pulling a black bag while a woman walks behind him. Police subsequently arrested DR (20), the woman believed to be the baby’s biological mother. The suspect had already been brought to the Pademangan Police Sector’s Criminal Investigation Unit on Monday afternoon.

“We have arrested the baby’s mother, identified by initials DR, who reportedly abandoned her own child just a few hours after the incident,” said the head of the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Task Force (PPA/PPO) of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kompol Ni Luh Sri Arsini.

DR has been handed over to the PPA/PPO unit of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The suspect is a private-sector employee.

“The suspect is DR (20), who works as a private-sector employee,” he said.

  1. Suspected Secret Relationship

Currently, the suspect’s condition is under medical assessment as she has just given birth. It is suspected the baby resulted from a clandestine relationship between the suspect and a partner.

“DR (20) works as a racker (billiard-ball arranger) in Mangga Dua. She has had sexual relations with a billiards customer resulting in pregnancy,” the Public Relations Head of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, said on Tuesday (3/3/2026).

Maryati said DR gave birth on Monday (2/2) at 04:00 in the morning after feeling abdominal pains. DR gave birth unaided in her room.

“The suspect admitted to giving birth unaided, without any help, in her room. After the baby was born, she then took a pair of scissors to cut the umbilical cord,” she added.

The suspect then wrapped the unfortunate baby in a cloth and placed her into a backpack, while the umbilical cord was discarded into the toilet.

  1. Inviting Her Brother to Help Dispose of the Baby

When discarding the baby, the suspect invited her 7-year-old younger brother to help. The baby was placed into the black backpack and carried by the suspect’s brother.

“The suspect, with the help of her seven-year-old brother, walked on foot, carrying the baby inside the black backpack, with the intention of disposing of the baby at the Pasar Nalo rubbish site in Pademangan Barat, about 800 metres from the home of the suspect. After discarding the baby, the suspect returned home,” he explained.

After discarding the baby, they returned home. The parents of the suspect told the police they were unaware of their daughter’s actions.

“At the time of the incident, the suspect’s parents said they did not know about the event. With the discovery of the baby by local residents, the infant was taken to RSUD Pademangan for treatment,” he explained.

  1. Baby Taken to RSUD Pademangan

After being found, the baby was immediately taken to RSUD Pademangan for treatment. The baby’s condition is gradually improving.

“The baby was taken to RSUD Pademangan for treatment. According to the on-call doctor at RSUD Pademangan, the baby’s condition has gradually improved,” Maryati said.
