4,000 Indonesian Migrant Workers to Be Placed in Germany
Jakarta, Kompas.com - Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, revealed that as many as 4,000 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) will be placed in Germany. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PT Tenriawaru Elite Internasional and Aurelium Global Talent GmbH. The cooperation is a follow-up to Indonesia’s Profesi Services Trade Mission to Berlin, previously conducted by KP2MI with the Ministry of Trade. ‘Inter-ministerial collaboration through this trade mission shows that the placement of Indonesian migrant workers is not merely viewed as labour mobility, but also as part of economic diplomacy and the strengthening of export of Indonesian professional services in the global market,’ Mukhtarudin said, quoted from a press release, Thursday 5 April 2026. Therefore, every prospective PMI must go through thorough preparation stages, including document verification, competency enhancement, strengthening of employment contract literacy, and briefing on the employment system in the destination country. ‘We emphasise that the placement process must be conducted professionally, transparently and accountably. Preparing Indonesian Migrant Workers is the key to ensuring they are not only ready to work, but also understand their rights and obligations,’ he said. ‘Protection must be present from pre-placement, during placement, to post-placement,’ he added. He hopes the implementation of this cooperation can be carried out consistently and sustainably, prioritising sound placement governance and ensuring maximum protection for every PMI.
