39 RTs and 13 Jalan in Jakarta Flooded, Water Reaches 1.5 Metres
JAKARTA — The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 39 rukun tetangga (RT) and 13 ruas jalan (road segments) in DKI Jakarta were flooded on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Mohammad Yohan, Head of the BPBD DKI Jakarta Data and Information Centre, said the data reflect monitoring up to 04:00 WIB. According to Yohan, the floods were triggered by heavy rains that drenched the Jakarta area and its surroundings since Saturday night through Sunday morning. ‘The cause is the heavy rain that hit the DKI Jakarta area and surrounding areas from Saturday (7/3/2026) to Sunday,’ Yohan said in a written statement. In West Jakarta, there were 19 RTs submerged, in addition to residential areas; BPBD also recorded 13 road segments flooded with water heights ranging from 10 to 120 centimetres. Among the road segments are: Officials are coordinating with relevant agencies to pump out standing water and ensure drainage channels function properly. ‘We are coordinating with relevant agencies to pump out the floods and ensure the drainage works properly together with the local lurahs and camats,’ he said. BPBD targets the flooding to recede soon. ‘We aim for inundation to recede quickly. We urge the public to remain cautious and vigilant for flood risks,’ Yohan added.
