384 MSME Outlets Participate in Palembang Great Sale 2026
Palembang (ANTARA) - A total of 384 micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) outlets took part in the Palembang Great Sale (PGS) 2026, held to commemorate the 1,343rd anniversary of the city of Palembang in South Sumatra.
Isnaini Madani, Assistant II for Economic and Development Affairs at the Palembang City Regional Secretariat, said in Palembang on Sunday that the city expressed its appreciation for the programme, which was considered capable of building collaboration between government, businesses, academics, communities and the media in driving economic activity among local residents.
“The Palembang Great Sale 2026, which ran for one month from 1 to 30 June 2026 at the PIM Atrium, has now officially closed,” she said.
She judged the event a success as one of the drivers of the regional economy, while also strengthening Palembang’s image as a shopping, culinary and tourism destination in Sumatra.
The programme not only offered a variety of shopping promotions but also served as a strategy to boost the city’s competitiveness and broaden the economic impact across various business sectors.
According to the organising committee’s report, 384 outlets from a range of sectors participated in Palembang Great Sale 2026.
Participants came from modern shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and MSME players.
Even health sector businesses such as hospitals and beauty clinics, as well as the education and transport sectors, took part in the event.
One distinctive feature of this year’s Palembang Great Sale was the offering of discounts of 13 to 43 per cent, symbolising the city’s age of 1,343 years.
The programme also delivered a significant economic impact, with the Palembang city government targeting 2.5 million tourist visits throughout 2026.
“Palembang Great Sale has become a flagship agenda capable of attracting tourists, particularly from South Sumatra, Jambi, Lampung, Bengkulu and even Java,” she explained.
The increase in transaction activity during PGS is expected to contribute to the city’s own-source revenue (PAD).
In the previous year, she added, the hotel, restaurant and entertainment tax sectors contributed more than 30 per cent, or around Rp366 billion, to regional revenue.
That achievement has become a motivation to keep boosting economic growth for the welfare of Palembang’s residents.
“The success of Palembang Great Sale 2026 was also supported by various accompanying events, such as Gemilang Palembang Raya X Digital Kito Galo, the Ampera Tourism Run, the Palembang Fashion Carnival, culinary festivals, and easier transport access through the integration of Palembang LRT services and digital transport,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ongky Prastianto, Chairman of the Indonesian Shopping Centre Managers Association (APPBI) for South Sumatra, said this year’s Palembang Great Sale received full support from all shopping centre managers through various promotional programmes themed around the city’s 1,343rd anniversary, customer prizes and other prize-draw programmes.
During the programme, transactions at shopping centres rose by around 20 per cent compared with the previous period.
He noted that the transaction value linked to the prize-draw programme reached around Rp14 billion, while total money circulation during Palembang Great Sale was estimated at Rp200 billion.
APPBI South Sumatra considered that Palembang Great Sale successfully encouraged public enthusiasm for shopping while simultaneously driving the region’s economic wheels.
“Going forward, we hope the programme can be prepared with a more mature concept so that it can maximise Palembang’s potential as a nationally scaled shopping tourism destination,” he said.
