38,842 train passengers depart Jakarta for Prophet Muhammad's Birthday long weekend
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta recorded 38,842 long-distance train (KAJJ) passengers departing from Jakarta on Saturday (22/8) during the extended holiday for the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday.
The figure represents the highest departure count so far during the long holiday period of 21–25 August 2026.
Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo said on Sunday that the increase in public mobility had been anticipated through the readiness of rolling stock, services, and additional train journeys.
“The temporary departure peak occurred on Saturday (22/8) with 38,842 passengers. To accommodate public mobility during the long holiday, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is operating 69 regular long-distance trains daily and adding seven departures from Gambir Station,” Franoto said.
Of the 38,842 passengers departing on Saturday (22/8), 14,255 departed from Gambir Station, 13,850 from Pasar Senen Station, 5,183 from Bekasi Station, 2,186 from Jatinegara Station, 1,803 from Cikarang Station, 818 from Cikampek Station, and 747 from Karawang Station.
During the holiday period of 21–25 August 2026, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is operating 69 regular long-distance trains per day, comprising 35 departures from Gambir Station and 34 from Pasar Senen Station.
Based on data updated as of Sunday (23/8) at 08.00 WIB, KAI has provided a total of 196,870 long-distance train seats during the extended holiday period.
Of that total, 56,051 executive class tickets have been sold out of 93,839 available seats, 57,323 commercial economy class tickets out of 84,608 seats, and 18,269 subsidised economy class or Public Service Obligation (PSO) tickets out of 18,423 seats.
“The occupancy rate for PSO economy class reached approximately 99 percent, indicating strong public interest in subsidised rail services,” Franoto said.
Meanwhile, for Sunday (23/8) departures, 26,801 passengers were recorded leaving from the Daop 1 Jakarta area. The highest number of departures came from Pasar Senen Station with 10,270 passengers and Gambir Station with 8,590 passengers.
Cumulatively, based on provisional booking data for the period 21–25 August 2026, more than 133,000 passengers are projected to depart and more than 141,000 passengers are expected to arrive in the Daop 1 Jakarta area. Popular destinations include Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.
Franoto added that arrival flows are expected to increase towards the end of the long holiday. On Tuesday (25/8), approximately 32,700 passengers are expected to arrive at stations in the Daop 1 Jakarta area.
An increase was also recorded on the Pangrango local train service (Bogor–Sukabumi), which posted 98 percent occupancy on Sunday (23/8) with 3,616 passengers, while the Siliwangi local train was 53 percent full with 1,019 passengers.
KAI urged travellers to factor in travel time to the station to avoid delays, ensure identity data matches, bring only necessary belongings, and make use of the Face Recognition Boarding Gate facility to speed up station entry.
