370 Palestinian children reported detained in Israeli prisons

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy has reported that around 370 Palestinian children are currently being held in Israeli prisons, with the majority detained at Megiddo and Ofer prisons.

The children form part of more than 9,400 Palestinian detainees and prisoners held by Israel as of early August, according to the rights group.

The report stated that Israel’s detention of Palestinian children is no longer confined to isolated cases, but has become a recurring practice in arrest campaigns across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The group added that Israeli forces detained 276 Palestinian children in the first six months of this year alone.

The group also highlighted Israel’s continued use of administrative detention, which allows Palestinians to be held without charge or trial for renewable periods, based on evidence that is not disclosed to the public.

Meanwhile, Palestinian and international human rights organisations have repeatedly accused Israeli authorities of subjecting detainees, including minors, to harsh conditions and failing to provide adequate food and medical care.
