Not all issuers on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) are valued highly. At least 36 stocks are trading at the gocap price of Rp50 per share. This position often reflects another side of the capital market, where liquidity appears frozen.

When a stock reaches Rp50, it is at the lowest point of trading, a thin line between hopes of recovery and the worst risks, such as prolonged suspension or delisting from the exchange.

For many investors, stocks at this level often become liquidity traps. Buying them may be easy because the price is already very low, but selling them back is frequently a challenge due to the almost non-existent queue of buyers in the market.

This condition is usually triggered by a combination of various factors, from deteriorating company fundamentals, weakening business activities, to legal issues or governance problems that cause market interest to disappear.

Nevertheless, some market participants still eye gocap stocks with the logic of high risk, high reward.

A one-point rise from 50 to 51 already means a jump of around 2%, so theoretically, it looks attractive to speculators.

However, the reality is not always as beautiful as that. Many stocks on the list have been moving stagnantly for a long time, and some have even experienced long suspensions, making hopes of recovery increasingly slim.

Amid increasingly strict exchange regulations, stocks with very low liquidity and unimproved performance also have the potential to enter the Special Monitoring Board, where trading mechanisms allow prices to drop far below Rp50, even to just 1 perak through the full call auction scheme. This means that 50 can no longer be considered a ‘safe floor’ for investors.

In the end, holding stocks at this level often feels like owning assets that are hard to liquidate.

A portfolio may look full on paper, but without adequate liquidity, its value may resemble more of a speculative ticket with an uncertain expiry date.

The following is the list of issuers whose share prices are at gocap.
