35th NU Congress to Be Held 1-5 August 2026
The 2026 National Conference of Religious Scholars and Grand Conference of Nahdlatul Ulama (Munas-Konbes NU) has agreed to hold the 35th NU Congress in early August. Secretary of the Munas-Konbes NU 2026 Steering Committee, Mohammad Nuh, stated that this national conference is an integral part of the preparations for the NU Congress. The location for the organisation’s highest consultative forum will be determined after a review of several regions that have submitted bids. “This Munas and Konbes is part of a series with the Congress, which God willing will be held from 1 to 5 August 2026,” Nuh said during a press conference following the Plenary Session III of Munas-Konbes NU 2026 at the Al-Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri. According to Nuh, several regions have officially submitted bids to host the 35th NU Congress, including West Nusa Tenggara, East Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, and West Sumatra. Nuh said the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama will soon form a special team to conduct a review before deciding on the congress location. “We will immediately form a team to review the aforementioned locations,” he said. He explained that four main aspects will be considered in determining the location for the largest organisational forum within Nahdlatul Ulama. The first consideration is the adequacy of facilities and infrastructure required to support the event. The second is the security aspect. Nuh said the congress must be held in a location capable of guaranteeing the safety of participants and ensuring all trial processes proceed in an orderly manner. “Because this concerns the congress, security must be ensured. Unauthorised or ineligible individuals must not be allowed to enter the venue,” Nuh stated. The third consideration is the financial readiness of the host region, while the fourth is the spiritual aspect, which has long been a hallmark of important decision-making within NU. “Of course, at NU, the final outcome always involves spiritual considerations,” Nuh said. Nuh stated that the theme for the 35th NU Congress will remain aligned with the Munas-Konbes 2026 theme, which is ‘Safeguarding Dignity, Enriching Service for the Welfare of the Nation’. Nuh expressed hope that the upcoming congress will be an important milestone marking the beginning of Nahdlatul Ulama’s second century. He also hopes the congress forum can strengthen the organisation’s role in providing broader benefits for the community, the nation, and humanity.
