35th NU Congress Implements Chip Cards and 100 CCTV Cameras for Digital Security
The organisation of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang Regency, East Java, marks a new chapter in digitally based organisational governance. The organising committee has officially integrated special chip-based smart card technology and an integrated surveillance system to ensure the smooth running of the major agenda for NU members.
This step was taken as a concrete solution to improve the accuracy of participant verification while closing loopholes for access manipulation that often pose challenges at national-scale events. With mature information technology infrastructure support, this Congress is expected to become a new standard in event management for religious organisations in Indonesia.
The core of this digital transformation lies in the participant cards equipped with chip technology. The Secretary of the Steering Committee of the 35th NU Congress, Professor Mohammad Nuh, affirmed that the system has been patented to guarantee the integrity of participant data.
“Starting from participation, everything has been verified. We have prepared these participation models. They already use chips and are patented, so they cannot be manipulated,” said Mohammad Nuh in Jombang as reported by Antara on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
This chip technology allows the committee to implement an access zoning system. Each card has been programmed with authority for specific areas, so cardholders can only enter areas that correspond to their function in the main Congress arena. This aims to maintain order at the hearing locations and ensure only authorised parties are present in crucial zones.
In addition to the card system, the committee has also strengthened physical security infrastructure through the use of more than 100 surveillance cameras or CCTV. All these cameras are connected directly to a command centre to monitor activities at all strategic points of the Congress arena.
Robin Makrufi, the IT section of the 35th NU Congress, explained that the coverage of this digital monitoring is very extensive.
The use of this technology is expected to minimise the potential for disputes regarding participant status that often arise at large forums. With digitally verified data from the outset, the committee has a strong database for making decisions if problems arise on the ground.
The integration of digital technology in the 35th NU Congress is not only about security but also service efficiency. The committee is targeting a more measurable and controlled event, from logistics management to rapid handling of participant issues.
With an integrated system, the committee can monitor density at certain points through CCTV and respond to participant needs in real time. This is evidence that traditional organisations such as NU are able to adapt to information technology developments to support the smooth running of the organisation’s highest deliberation.
