357 Hajj Pilgrims from Kulon Progo Return to Indonesia Amid Emotional Welcome

An emotional atmosphere and tears of joy marked the arrival of the first group of 357 Hajj pilgrims from Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, who returned to the homeland via Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) on Tuesday (2/6/2026). The group was welcomed by the Regent of Kulon Progo, Agung Setyawan, alongside members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) during an official welcoming ceremony at the Great Mosque of Kulon Progo.

Regent Agung expressed his gratitude for the safe return of the pilgrims in good health. However, he also expressed deep condolences for the passing of one pilgrim, Ngadikin from Plumbon, who died in the Holy Land. He further noted that two other pilgrims, Jalal Amat Iman and Sabilah Somowijiyo, have had to delay their return as they remain under intensive care in Saudi Arabia, adding that they are praying for their swift recovery.

He emphasised that those who have returned should maintain the status of ‘Hajj Mabrur’ through tangible changes in their behaviour within the community. He expressed hope that the pilgrims would increase their piety, social concern, and strengthen the bonds of Islamic brotherhood in their respective environments. “Be individuals who are eager to help, humble, and able to integrate without discriminating between groups. The presence of these men and women is expected to bring light to the people of Kulon Progo, fostering greater harmony and unity,” he stated.
