350kg Sacrificial Cow Escapes Slaughter Attempt, Trapped in 2-Metre Culvert in East Jakarta

A 350kg sacrificial cow went berserk and became trapped in a culvert in the Kayu Putih area of Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (27 May 2026). The animal entered a two-metre-deep culvert, complicating evacuation efforts. ‘The cow became startled during slaughter preparations and fled into a one-metre-wide, two-metre-deep culvert,’ said Abdul Wahid, Head of Operations for Jakarta Timur’s Disaster Management Agency (Gulkarmat), in a WhatsApp message on Wednesday. ‘After receiving the report, we deployed two rescue units with 13 personnel,’ Wahid added. ‘The rescue team successfully extracted the cow from the culvert at 10:11 WIB,’ he said.
