35 Mosques in Indonesia Receive Sacrificial Cows from Boyolali
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has purchased dozens of giant local cattle from Boyolali, Central Java. The 35 cows will be distributed to 35 mosques across Indonesia for the 2026 Iduladha celebrations.
Local farmers and cattle breeders from Boyolali, Central Java, were surprised to find all their cattle bought by the Cabinet Secretary for sacrifice during this year’s Iduladha. The joyous moment was shared by Boyolali content creator Utik Anggra on his personal Instagram account.
At least 35 cows from Senden village, Selo subdistrict, Boyolali regency, were purchased by the Cabinet Secretary. In his post, Utik Anggra interviewed several farmers on the matter.
“I heard Cabinet Secretary Teddy was looking for cattle, and coincidentally, all my cows were bought,” said one local Boyolali farmer during an interview with Utik Anggra, according to an official statement on Wednesday, 27 May.
He added: “Neighbours, upon hearing that the Cabinet Secretary had bought all their cattle, initially questioned it. They then tried offering their own. To our relief, they also met the criteria. Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly.”
Another farmer expressed gratitude for having their cattle included in the purchase: “Alhamdulillah, as local breeders and small-scale farmers like us, this programme has been a huge help.”
Another stated, “Thank you, matur suwun, Cabinet Secretary Teddy for buying my favourite cows.” Another shared his joy: “I’m so happy. Thank you, Allah.”
“I’m just a farmer and villager often told I’m not worthy,” he continued, “but my cows met the criteria. This really helps the breeders in Senden and Boyolali villages.”
According to Utik, most of the cattle purchased by the Cabinet Secretary weigh at least one ton, including Limousin breeds exceeding one ton and Mentals also over one ton. “They’re huge, guys, ready to be sent to various locations,” Utik said.
The office also reported national data showing an increasing trend in public participation in sacrificial rituals.
