The Bali Provincial Government has started sending shredded organic waste from Denpasar to Klungkung Regency. During the trial phase, the shipment is said to reach up to 35 trucks per day.

This policy has immediately drawn a response from the Klungkung Regency Government. The Head of the Environmental and Land Affairs Office (DLHP) of Klungkung, I Dewa Koman Aswin, stated that they will schedule an audience between the Bali Provincial Government and the Regent of Klungkung.

“Yesterday, we accompanied the Head of the Provincial DKLH to see the activity, so we have reported it to the Regent for an audience with the province,” said Aswin when contacted by detikBali on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Aswin explained that the processing of organic waste is carried out on provincial-owned land located north of the Embung Tukad Unda area, Dawan Subdistrict, Klungkung.

The land is used as a storage and processing site for shredded organic waste from Denpasar City. In the future, the location also has the potential to be used for processing organic waste from Klungkung.

The 5-hectare area is a provincial asset. Therefore, the Klungkung Regency Government only plays a role in supervising the implementation on the ground.

“The ball is in the province’s court. So we can only ensure supervision regarding the implementation process. This is what is very important going forward,” Aswin clarified.

From explanations by the Bali Forestry and Environmental Office (DKLH), Aswin stated that the organic waste sent to Klungkung has already been shredded at the TPST and TPS 3R in Denpasar to then be processed into compost.

The site selection is said to have undergone technical studies. Technically, the processing is done using a layered burial method.

“A pit will be dug 4 metres deep, measuring about 10 x 35 metres, then the shredded organic waste that has been given microorganisms from its source is inserted. After that, it is covered with soil before being layered again with other organic material,” Aswin explained.

Amid the waste emergency, Aswin said his side welcomes the Bali Provincial Government’s step. Moreover, Klungkung also has the potential to utilise the processing facility.

On the other hand, Klungkung Regent I Made Satria is concerned about the plan. He emphasised that the Klungkung Regency Government will provide special considerations regarding the processing of organic waste in its area.

“Location is the main consideration. When the location is in the centre of tourism, this is not good for the future,” said Satria.

Therefore, he asked the provincial government to discuss the plan thoroughly before execution.

“A re-study must be conducted,” Satria asserted firmly.
