As many as 35 members of the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) have died over the past year. According to the Head of DKI Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, the high death rate among his personnel is due to the heavy workload in the field and the lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure.

“I have been the Head of Satpol PP for almost a year. So, almost 35 of my members have died. It’s not because of the head, but because of the conditions—the workload and the extraordinary lack of facilities and infrastructure,” said Satriadi in Jakarta on Thursday, 23 April 2026.

In a meeting with Commission A of the DKI DPRD at the DKI DPRD Building, he also explained that the number of Satpol PP personnel at the sub-district level is still very limited, around 7-10 people.

This number is considered disproportionate to the tasks that must be carried out, from supervision to area enforcement. As a result, many members have to work for very long durations, even up to 36 hours.

In addition, Satriadi also conveyed to the legislators regarding supporting facilities, such as rest areas, which are still minimal. However, he said, Satpol PP members must be on guard for 24 hours at the sub-district office.

Therefore, currently, many Satpol PP members are forced to rest in prayer rooms or office corridors because adequate rest rooms are not available. This condition is also considered to impact the health and stamina of the officers.

Due to fatigue, he said, many members end up experiencing high blood pressure. This condition was revealed after health checks were conducted on each personnel.

“How can they work well the next day to carry out enforcement? Their blood pressure is surely high. That’s why we did a check-up yesterday, and it turned out the blood pressure levels were extraordinarily high,” Satriadi revealed.

On that occasion, he also hoped that the DKI DPRD, especially Commission A, could pay attention to the needs of facilities and infrastructure as well as more humane working hour arrangements for Satpol PP members.

“We hope for support for facilities, especially rest areas, so that members can maintain their health and work more optimally,” Satriadi stated.
