35 DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Members Die, Working Up to 36 Hours
JAKARTA - As many as 35 members of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in DKI Jakarta have passed away over the past year or so. Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Satriadi Gunawan stated that this situation occurred due to the heavy workload, with some members having to work up to 36 hours. “Almost 35 of my members have died. Not because of the head, sir, but due to the conditions, the workload, and the extraordinary facilities. Some Satpol PP members work up to 36 hours,” Satriadi said during a meeting with Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD on Thursday (23/4/2026). At the sub-district level, the number of Satpol PP members ranges from seven to 10 people, while the tasks to be carried out are quite numerous. As a result, members must work longer hours to cover the shortages. In addition, supporting facilities are also deemed inadequate. Members who are on duty for 24 hours at the sub-district office even lack proper resting places. Many of them are forced to rest in the prayer room or office corridors. “The workload is disproportionate to the number of personnel, sir. So, especially without sufficient and adequate resting places at the sub-district office,” Satriadi explained. Satriadi even mentioned that many of his members suffer from hypertension and it is possible that it causes death. “Yesterday we conducted a check, a medical check-up, and it turned out that blood pressure, the high tension, is extraordinary. So, I request that the fathers and mothers of Commission A pay attention to us,” Satriadi said.
