34 juvenile inmates in Central Java receive remission for National Children's Day

The Directorate General of Corrections for the Central Java region recorded that 34 juvenile inmates received remission or a reduction in their sentences to mark National Children’s Day 2026. Head of the Central Java Corrections Office, Mardi Santoso, stated in Semarang on Thursday that the sentence reduction is a form of appreciation for good behaviour and active participation in rehabilitation programmes. The juvenile inmates received sentence reductions ranging from one to four months. “The reduction of the criminal period is a form of the state’s trust in juvenile inmates who have demonstrated good behaviour and sincerity in following rehabilitation,” he said. He expressed hope that this award would serve as motivation to continue self-improvement, enhance skills, and return to society as a better, independent, and responsible generation. He explained that the remission granted during the National Children’s Day commemoration fulfils the provisions for implementing the principles of restorative justice and the protection of children’s rights. “Through the 2026 National Children’s Day remission, juvenile inmates are expected to be increasingly motivated to continue behaving well, develop their potential through rehabilitation programmes, and be ready to return to society as more responsible individuals,” he said.
