34 juvenile inmates in Central Java receive remission for National Children's Day

The reduction of sentences is a form of the state’s trust in juvenile detainees who have demonstrated good behaviour and commitment in following rehabilitation programmes.

Semarang (ANTARA) — The Directorate General of Corrections for Central Java has recorded that 34 juvenile detainees received remissions, or reductions in their sentences, in commemoration of National Children’s Day 2026.

The Head of the Directorate General of Corrections for Central Java, Mardi Santoso, said in Semarang on Thursday that the sentence reductions were a form of appreciation for good behaviour and active participation in rehabilitation programmes.

He said the juvenile detainees received sentence reductions of between one and four months.

“The reduction of sentences is a form of the state’s trust in juvenile detainees who have demonstrated good behaviour and commitment in following rehabilitation,” he said.

He expressed hope that this recognition would serve as motivation for the detainees to continue improving themselves, enhancing their abilities, and returning to society as a better, more independent and responsible generation.

He explained that the remissions granted during the commemoration of National Children’s Day comply with the provisions for implementing restorative justice principles and the protection of children’s rights.

“Through the 2026 National Children’s Day remissions, juvenile detainees are expected to be increasingly motivated to continue behaving well, developing their potential through rehabilitation programmes, and to be ready to return to society as more responsible individuals,” he said.
