JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Eid al-Fitr return traffic in 2026 has begun to increase. Data from the Eid Transportation Post records a continuous rise in passenger movements from Sumatra to Java.

Cumulative data from 22 March to 25 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB shows that 327,646 passengers have returned to Java Island via ferry ships. This period covers H to H+3 of Eid.

“This figure reaches 36.4 percent compared to the total passengers during the outbound migration (H-10 to H) which reached 898,864 people,” said the President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Heru Widodo, in an official statement on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

“The Eid al-Fitr return traffic movement in 2026 from Sumatra to Java is starting to show a significant increase,” he continued.

“This data indicates that the return traffic will continue to move and is expected to increase in the coming days,” Heru explained.

A surge was observed during the H+2 Eid period or 24 March 2026. The movement from Sumatra to Java reached 128,821 people. This figure rose 51 percent compared to the same period last year.

The number of vehicles during the same period reached 36,499 units. This figure increased by 63 percent.

The reverse flow also increased. The movement from Java to Sumatra was recorded at 47,052 passengers, up 24.7 percent. The total vehicles reached 10,110 units, up 20.4 percent.

ASDP continues to intensively monitor the return traffic. Crossing operations are maintained to remain smooth.

“Along with the formation of return traffic patterns, we ensure that crossing operations run smoothly, both in terms of fleet readiness and service to users,” he explained.

ASDP has prepared anticipatory measures to face the surge. Ship operations are adjusted according to density levels. Emergency schemes are also prepared through tugboats and 24-hour standby technicians.

“ASDP also implements the Arrival-Unloading-Departure (TBB) pattern to speed up service times during dense conditions,” he added.
