321 Local Governments Urged to Implement Six Inflation Control Measures
Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tomsi Tohir, has drawn attention to local governments that have not yet undertaken the six steps for controlling inflation. Based on the monitoring and evaluation results from the Ministry of Home Affairs for the period 20 April 2026 to 27 April 2026, 321 local governments have not taken any efforts at all.
This was revealed by Tomsi while leading the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, which took place in a hybrid format from the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building, Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters, Jakarta, today.
“So, they are just waiting, hoping for good fortune. They only attend inflation meetings, but there is no action,” Tomsi explained in a written statement on Monday (27/4/2026).
The six concrete efforts include cheap market operations; inspections of markets and distributors to prevent hoarding; cooperation with producing regions for smooth supply; planting movements; realising Unforeseen Expenditure Budgets; and support for transportation from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget, particularly in commodity distribution.
Tomsi revealed that during that period, only 12 regions fully carried out the six concrete steps. Those regions are Tanah Datar Regency, Padang Panjang City, Tangerang City, Jembrana Regency, Gianyar Regency, Karangasem Regency, Buleleng Regency, Landak Regency, Melawi Regency, Kapuas Regency, Katingan Regency, and Boalemo Regency.
“Of course, we hope they can improve by taking concrete efforts,” said Tomsi.
He mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Inspectorate General always records the inflation control efforts undertaken by local governments every week. The data comes from regency/city inspectorates that check inflation control efforts in their areas.
This control is important because it relates to food prices. Tomsi emphasised that one of the government’s tasks is to provide welfare to the people as much as possible, including ensuring affordable food prices.
“Once again, if they don’t act, I say they don’t act, and if they feel they have acted but don’t report it, that’s their own fault for not reporting,” he explained.
Furthermore, Tomsi instructed the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Home Affairs to write to the regional heads who have been recorded as not taking inflation control steps.
“Don’t just attend inflation meetings, but after that, don’t go down to the markets, don’t do anything at all,” he concluded.
The forum was attended in person by several speakers, namely Deputy for Distribution and Services of the Central Statistics Agency, Ateng Hartono, Acting Deputy II of the Presidential Chief of Staff, Popy Rufaidah, and Director of Supply and Food Price Stabilisation of the National Food Agency, Maino Dwi Hartono.
Several speakers from other ministries and agencies also attended online. The meeting was also attended online by local government officials and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum.
