321 Foreign Nationals Managing Online Gambling in Hayam Wuruk to Face Legal Proceedings in Indonesia

Jakarta - Police have assured that hundreds of foreign nationals arrested during the raid on an international online gambling network in Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta, will be processed legally in Indonesia. “We from the Directorate of General Criminal Crimes at Bareskrim Polri are committed to carrying out criminal legal proceedings,” said Director of Criminal Affairs at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, during a press conference on Saturday (9/5/2026). The breakdown includes 13 Myanmar nationals, 11 Laotian nationals, five Thai nationals, and three each from Malaysia and Cambodia. The perpetrators are charged with violating Article 426 and/or Article 607 in conjunction with Article 20 and/or Article 21 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP), as well as Law Number 1 of 2026 on Penal Adjustments. Wira explained that the perpetrators ran the online gambling operation with a structured division of tasks. According to him, the network was not involved in online scams but purely online gambling. “There is a customer service section, a marketing section, another customer service section, then an accounting or finance section. There is also a telemarketing section,” he said. From preliminary investigations, the majority of the victims in this online gambling network are foreign nationals. Police seized several pieces of evidence, including safes, passports, mobile phones, laptops, computers, and cash in various foreign currencies.
