321 Foreign Nationals Arrested, DPR Urges Police to Pursue Intellectual Actors Behind Online Gambling
Online gambling has now become a transnational crime that destroys society from the bottom to the top. The state must not lose to gambling bookmakers.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of DPR RI Commission III, Rudianto Lallo, has urged the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to dismantle all the intellectual actors behind the international online gambling syndicate that has been targeted in enforcement actions.
Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, Rudianto stated that enforcement must not stop at field operators alone, but must go to the root of the network. He assessed that online gambling practices pose a serious threat to the social and economic stability of the community.
“Online gambling has now become a transnational crime that destroys society from the bottom to the top. The state must not lose to gambling bookmakers,” he said.
He emphasised that Indonesia must not be made a safe haven or operational base for international online gambling syndicates.
According to him, the success in uncovering this case must serve as a momentum to strengthen oversight of illegal digital activities that continue to evolve with various new methods.
He stated that the impact of online gambling is highly destructive because it targets small communities to the younger generation. Many families, he said, become victims due to addiction to online gambling, which leads to economic problems and other criminal acts.
“Many small communities lose their income, households are destroyed, young people ruin their futures. Therefore, I always say that the war against online gambling must be a collective movement and must not be half-hearted,” he remarked.
“Now, the consistency of enforcement must be maintained. Do not give even the slightest room for online gambling mafias to grow in this country,” he added.
Previously, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of Polri arrested 321 foreign nationals related to online gambling crimes in an international network in the Hayam Wuruk area, Jakarta.
Director of General Criminal Acts at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General of Police Wira Satya Triputra, stated that the arrests were a follow-up to a series of long investigations based on public information.
