32 stab wounds on toddler’s body: silent witness to uncle’s brutality in Bekasi
A 2-year-old boy in Jatisampurna, Bekasi, West Java, was murdered by his 18-year-old uncle, identified as G. The victim sustained 32 stab wounds, as revealed by the autopsy report. The body was discovered on Wednesday, 27 May, in a rented house.
“The autopsy report from Polri Hospital confirmed a total of 32 stab wounds on the victim,” said Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Bekasi City Metropolitan Police Station, to reporters on Friday, 29 May 2026.
The victim and suspect lived with their grandmother in a rented house. At the time of the murder, G and the child were alone in the house while the grandmother was out selling goods.
According to Andi, based on witness statements, the grandmother often left the child alone while she went to work. Typically, the child was with the suspect.
“On the day of the incident, the suspect and victim were the only two present. They lived with the grandmother, but she usually worked from 4pm until evening,” Andi explained.
The suspect claimed he killed his nephew after being disturbed while playing video games. The child climbed onto his back, causing G to lose control.
“After questioning the suspect directly, he was playing games when the toddler climbed on his back. The suspect felt disturbed and proceeded to stab the child,” Kompol Andi stated.
He added that G used two knives from the kitchen to stab the victim. G also reported hearing voices, which he said drove him to commit the act.
“Besides being disturbed, the suspect claimed to have heard voices and wanted to meet God immediately, according to his statement,” he said.
G injured himself with stab wounds to his chest and both cheeks. Andi noted that G was hospitalised but has since regained consciousness.
Police have officially named G as a suspect. He is currently detained at Bekasi City Metropolitan Police Station.
“Yes, he has been declared a suspect. We’ve conducted a case conference,” Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal said when questioned by detikcom on Friday, 29 May 2026.
The suspect was formally charged following a case conference process. The review confirmed he met the criteria for suspect status.
“Yes, the suspect is legally liable. We are processing the case,” Andi explained.
Andi stated that the police have not yet determined G’s mental health status. Previously, the victim’s grandmother, who is also G’s mother, reported that he had mental health issues and regularly took medication.
“We cannot yet conclude if he has a mental health condition. We are awaiting the Polri Hospital’s autopsy report on his mental state,” Andi said.
G faces charges under Article 80(3) of Law No. 35/2014 on Child Protection, subsidiary to Article 458 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) under Law No. 1/2023, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison or a fine of Rp13 billion.
